Hanase's Japanese kanji packs — the Essential, Intermediate, and Advanced Kanji bundles — are built on two open dictionary databases compiled and maintained by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG). Attribution is required by their licence:

KANJIDIC2

Per-character readings (on'yomi and kun'yomi), English meanings, and school-grade banding come from the KANJIDIC2 database. KANJIDIC2 is the property of the EDRDG, and is used here in conformance with the Group's licence.

JMdict

The example words and compounds on each kanji card are drawn from the JMdict Japanese–English dictionary database, also the property of the EDRDG and used in conformance with its licence. Example sentences in the vocabulary packs are original to Hanase.

License

Both databases are made available by the EDRDG under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence. The data is used with attribution as required, and the portions of Hanase's pack data derived from these databases are made available under the same licence.

A note on JLPT levels

Hanase does not claim to reproduce any official JLPT kanji list — the Japan Foundation has not published one since 2010. The kanji packs are organised by the order kanji are taught in Japanese schools (the Jōyō grades), which is an official, published sequence.
